Court Orders Prosecutors to Finalize Investigation of Magoti and Theodory Case

48 days behind bars, pending investigation of the economic crime case No. 137, 2019 against Tito Magoti and Theodory Giyani; the Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court has ordered the prosecutors to finalize the investigation. Tito and Theodory were brought before the court today on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, for the fourth mention of their case. The prosecutors requested the court to postpone the case for further investigation claiming that there are matters that need follow up beyond Tanzania for the finalisation of the investigation.

On the other hand, the panel of nine defending counsels prayed before the court to call for the prosecutors to declare before the court the time that they will spend to finalize the investigation for the court to dispense justice promptly given that the offences that respondents are charged with are unbailable.

The case has been adjourned and scheduled for February 19, 2020.

Tito and Theodory were on December 20, 2019, arrested in a manner contrary to the Criminal Procedures Act 1985 before the government established what is believed to be trumped-up charges against the two young men.
